Battle Guide
Pokemon battles are rather straight forward in nature. A trainer sending out a Pokemon to do battle with another trainers Pokemon. Generally speaking a battle will consist of a trainer sending out Pokemon one after the other until all of their battle ready Pokemon have had a turn battling. The returning of a Pokemon is entirely under the discretion of a trainer, but it is common for Pokemon to be withdrawn when too injured for battle or if there are circumstances requiring that it is swapped with another.
Rules of battle
* Pokemon - During a match, only one Pokemon should be used at a time unless otherwise stated by the opponent. A trainer who calls out more then one risks losing control of both during battle if he/she isnt very familiar with using them. Otherwise they will be forced to deal with disobedient Pokemon that will generally do as they please and may even run away.
* Turns - Each opponents turn should consist of generally one or two attacks. There are times when this differs in accordance with the situation. Should there be a dispute it should be taken to a moderator or admin. Please use good judgment and reason when battling as to not require constant moderation.
* Status Effects/Special Abilities - Status effects should generally be applied before an attack. Special abilities are applied before anything else. This is done because in reality such things are constant and should be treated as such. Also make sure to RP the status effect properly. Ignoring status ailments, if your effected, is not tolerated.
* Item Usage - Items should only be used when appropriate. Healing your Pokemon during battle or giving it special items to assist is fine. But doing so at times when its not possible will not be permitted. If a Pokemon is restrained or in the midst of attacking or being attacked, it would not be acceptable, or plausible, for a person to suddenly jump into the battle to help. Unless you wished to risk serious injury by the offending Pokemon, it is advised you avoid this.
* Paying Attention - Pokemon battles are fast paced and dangerous things that require you to be on your toes. Although you can take your mind away from the battles for a few seconds at a time, not paying attention will usually cost you a battle. In this, it is generally not a good idea to spend the whole time talking or taunting the other trainer. It is your prerogative to do as you like, but should a Pokemon be attacking and you make no action against it, then the trainer has full authority to decide where and how badly the damage occurs. This is the only time that "God Moding" would ever be permitted.
Status Effects
* Poison - The victim slowly feels weaker and weaker as the battle goes on. This effect is small but will increase with subsequent doses.
* Toxicity - The alternate form to Poison. Once afflicted the user will feel increasingly worse over time. Each post that passes the effect will grow worse, unlike Poison which stays at a constant rate unless the dose is heightened. Those effected by Toxicity aren't effected by Poison though and Toxicity cant be stacked as Poison can.
* Paralyzed - Depending on the situation, Paralysis may take on different shapes or forms. The general effect of being Paralyzed is that the muscles in ones body cramp up and restrict movement, or in some cases a powerful current of electricity or strong physical blow will momentarily stun the victim.
* Sleep - Self explanatory for the most part. Victims who fall under this will generally pass out until awoken forcefully. In some cases the Sleep effect can be strong enough to keep enemies sleeping even while under attack.
* Burned - Pokemon who suffer burns will take increased harm from physical attacks. Being Burned also makes a Pokemon physically weaker themselves. Unlike normal burns anybody can get, these burns are specially afflicted and only acquired through certain Pokemon attacks.
* Frozen - Unlike Paralysis, being Frozen means you are completely unable to battle, and keeps the effected Pokemon this way until its removed. Once frozen, a Pokemon is subject to whatever their enemy desires as they are unable to defend or attack by any means. Frozen usually occurs when a Pokemon is trapped in a block of ice or the surrounding area is so cold that it forms ice to collect around them.
Communication
* Attacking - When calling for a Pokemon to attack, it isn't always necessary to use the exact name of an attack. Saying "Attack with your claws" can refer to anything from Scratch to Fury Swipes. Simply make it clear to the reader what it is your Pokemon is actually doing and the way in which your trainer commands a Pokemon is irrelevant. If needed, place something like (Hyper Beam) next to the description to inform the reader.
* Understanding - Pokemon can generally understand what a person is saying. Some Pokemon can even talk back using the human language. Psychic Pokemon can speak to their trainers telepathically and vise-versa. While ghost Pokemon can generally speak human tongue with ease, though many still make garbled sounds. Do keep in mind though that the average human and Pokemon can communicate, however its not easy and it generally requires a bit of time and getting to know a Pokemon to understand it unless it can actually speak.
