Ryla isn't your typical Priestess.
She's a priestess of an old religion, more a spiritual path for those that desire to be closer to their natural state. It has no name. It is just called the Sacred Path. It is a way of life that allows for people to be closer to pokemon and the natural world around them. It brings her a touch of peace.
She isn't your typical trainer.
She favors Fire types, fears Ghost types(which is good because they despise her too because of her...uniqueness), she is shy and avoids battle, but if pressured enough she will take up a challenge and will come at you with a rarely seen vindictiveness.
She's not your typical girl.
She harbors a terrible secret. One that drives her to the brink of madness. One that will drive her to kill. Its from her far past. One that makes her a bit unusual, a bit crazy, and a bit dangerous.
Its a good thing that she's never wanted to be typical...
Ryla's father worked for Silph Co. In a small department set with the task of researching pokemon dna to be used in enhance human abilities. Her father was very dedicated to his duties and made great steps towards their ultimate goals. But he was a greedy man, and when he was denied the right to human test subjects he decided that he would not be stopped. He took his own daughter to the lab and spliced her dna together with that or a mix of ghost type pokemon.
At first there was no change, but then she started to writhe upon the ground violently. Her body changed, becoming more pale, and taking on a sheer hazy ethereal state. Her hair, normally a fiery red, turned a ashy gray, her eyes a deep blood red. Her teeth grew sharp, and her nails long. Though still a small child of seven she rose to her feet, emitting a unearthly howl, and lashed out at her father. Her father panicked and retaliated, striking at her with a metal rod that had been laid to the side during some machine's repairs.
In his haste to defend himself from the monster child he had created he knocked over a beaker filled with an unknown substance. It burst into flames as soon as it was free from its containment and began to spread like wildfire. The only good to come of that misguided strike was that it did connect with his daughters head and she was sent into a iron induced stupor.
He gathered up his child and fled from the burning building, sneaking away never returning. He wandered for three years, his child bound and sedated. Perhaps it was guilt, or maybe that he just wished for his creation to obtain enough rational by growing up to become all she could, but he kept Ryla alive. He finally found his way to the sinnoh region, where in the small town of Celestine he was told of a priest who lived on a local mountaintop that might be able to help him.
He traveled through harsh blizzards and treacherous rocky paths to reach the priests home. But he made it and found the help he desired. The priest was able to return ryla to her natural state with a enchanted rosary. If taken off she would revert once more to her morphed state so three binding conditions were set, allowing full balance, neither binding her completely but not leaving the beast unchained. First, Ryla can never remove it herself. Secondly, the removal can not be done for selfish reasons. And lastly only someone that holds a place in her heart, friend or lover, can remove the charm.
Once the charm was placed on her, the rosary secured, the priest let ryla and her father stay the night. In the morning her father had disappeared. He left his ten year old child/monster alone and orphaned with a priest who was the only other one in the world who knew her secret. He was a kind soul and took her in, adopting her as his own.
The twelve years she spent with him were happy ones. She lived with him and his pokemon in peace, sheltered, but never alone. He taught her about the Sacred path in a shrine close to their house, and how to accept her other side, if not the reason for it, at least its existence as a gift. She was closer to a natural state and better for it. He gave her a charmander whom she raised with his guidance.
It rained the spring day that the priest, the only father she had ever known, passed away. Her grief was unmatched. A week was how long she spent locked up in their small house alone, never moving from her perch in his favorite reclining chair in the study. When she did decide to move she found a letter in her room from her adoptive father. It stated that he was leaving her the home, and instruction to take care of the shrine, and also to release his dear pokemon.
It also had a few newspaper article concerning a man whom she had no heard of in ten years. It seemed her father had somehow gotten re-employed at Silph Co and had become one of their top research executives. The priests letter told her that she should forgive her father and go to him, as it was best for a father and child to be with each other. But a rage welled up inside of her. She could not, no matter all the joy she had gained from living with the priest, forgive the man that had made her a monster.
She stayed in her home for the next three years, training with her charmeleon, who had evolved on the day the priest had died, His flame going from a crimson red to a light blue. She trained herself mentally, and physically. She wanted to be in complete sync with her pokemon so that she could set out and take revenge on her the scientist that had made her a freak-show....
Thats right, she was going to kill a scientist. Her father had died three years ago. Her journey just started.

Location: Viridian Forest, on the outskirts of the forest.
Time: Noon, or just after.
The black helicopter landed in a small clearing just outside of the Viridian forest just after the sun started to leave it's peak and start it's decent. If anyone had been around at the time to see this, they would have noticed the large red Logo of the Harris Science corporation on the side of the Aviation vehicle. While it was not uncommon to see this symbol on goods all over, it was uncommon to see any of their personnel outside of Saffron City.
But the person that excited the helicopter did not match the description of HSC employees. It was a teenage girl, dressed scantily in the latest fashions. She had two pokeballs attached to her hip on one side, and a black pokedex on the other side. A pack was slung loosely over her shoulder. She didn't look to pleased to be on the edge of a dark forest.
Just after her a older gentleman stepped out and away from the helicopter. He walked with the younger girl as she started towards the forest. She stamped across the grass in a huff, stopping once she could hear decently enough, crossing her arms across her chest. "He's punishing me...I just know it..."
The gentleman came up beside her and wrapped his arm around her gently. "Now now Xandi, your father is not punishing you. You know that he feels that completing the gym challenge and challenging the Indigo league will help you grow. He just wants you to be the best you can."
Alexandria glared at him for a moment, but her gazed softened after a bit. "But he wants me to raise this weak baby Pokemon....Alpha already hates it.... And to give it to me when I'm just starting out, when we haven't even tested Alpha's Abilities in the field? it's cruel Gene."
Gene just smiled at her. "You will be fine. Now, I have to go. Please keep in touch with the poketech. I want to hear all the stories you will have to tell. Be safe Xandi." With that he turned and got back onto the helicopter.
Shifting the pack on her shoulders she scoffed at what Gene had said. If anyone else had called me that name...they would get kicked in the balls.

After three hours of wandering trails in the forest, Alex was tired and starting to get cranky. She was hating the world outside her plush home and the adventurous city. She had not come across a single Pokemon to test Alpha's capabilities in battle against, and she was miserable. She was not enjoying her trip.
But then luck gave in and a pikachu scrambled out onto the path in front of her. It's cheeks sparked as she pulled out her 'dex. The pokedex informed her that its actions indicated it was protecting it's territory. "Hmmm...." She reached on her side and pulled off the first pokeball and pressed the release. In a flash of red light her eevee was standing at her side. "Alpha, Confusion."
Before Alpha could react the pikachu sent a small current of electricity arcing towards them. Both were able to just step aside so it was most likely a warning. The Pokemon in this forest were typically weak so it would not be anything to worry about. Alpha took a few steps forward, it's body shifted violently as it took on it's espion evolution. It canted it's head sideways and focused on the pikachu who recoiled violently as the waves of psychic energy hit it. It swayed back and forth for a moment before looking around puzzled. To Alex's surprise it started to chase it's tail.
She reached to her side and grabbed her other pokeball and released her other pokemon. The little magby jumped up and down excitedly, happy to be a part of the fight. "Now, Alpha...Beta. both of you use Ember. I don't want this thing in my sight any longer." Alpha shifted once again, this time to her flareon evolution and ligned up beside the dancing magby. They both took a deep breath, and they exhaled three small flames each that sped towards the pikachu.
The poor unlucky beast took too flame and began to roll around in the dirt. After a few moments the flames were out but the pikachu had lost it's will to defend it's territory. It scurried off, limping in pain, into the trees and out of sight.
Alex took two red pellets out of her pack and fed one to each of her pokemon. They were nothing but sweet pellets that her father had developed, but positive reinforcement was necessary for proper training. She took a stylus from the side of her black dex, pressed a side button and the screen switched to a memo pad mode. She walked over to a tree off the path and leaned against it as she wrote down her observations.
